Aladdin- Movie Review

Name of the Movie- Aladdin

Year of Release- 2019

Genre- Fantasy, Disney Readaptation

Duration- 128  minutes (2 hrs 8 min)

Director-  Guy Ritchie

Starring- Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott,

IMDb rating- 7.4/10

Synopsis- Like the readaptation from the 1992 animated film of Aladdin, Jafar, the minister uses Aladdin, the infamous street rat to obtain the lamp to become the most powerful person in existence. But things take a turn when Aladdin is stuck with the lamp inside the cave and has the genie as his only friend and saviour to help him out. He also loves the Princess from the palace – Jasmine, who is desperate to become Sultan and also not marry a prince, but a person who she truly loves.

Review:- Will Smith was the most amazing character in the entire movie; his humour was no match to the other characters. Naomi did do a good job with the music part of the movie, and Aladdin was the person who seemed like he was a bit lost into his own world half the time, but it’s okay; cause there was a balance maintained between the others as well. Jafar did do his part a bit worse in the beginning when he made his appearance, but he did shine out as the story moved on.

My favourite quotes from the movie: (You can find them on the IMDb website)

*Disclaimer- ALL RIGHTS TO THE QUOTES GO TO THE IMDb WEBSITE; I’M JUST SIMPLY SHARING THEM FROM THEIR FORUM

1) Genie: It’s showtime!

Aladdin: No, I’m in charge, and I decide when it’s time to…

[Genie blows Aladdin over to Jasmine]

    Aladdin: Really?

2) Aladdin: Do we need the topknot?

Genie: That’s like my whole cherry on top!

3) [Aladdin bungles his courtship of Jasmine]

Genie: In ten thousand years, I have never been so embarrassed.

4) Aladdin: Hey, can you make me a prince?

Genie: There’s a lot of gray area in “make me a prince”. I can just… make you a prince.

[creates a prince out of thin air]

  Aladdin: Oh, no!

Genie: Right. You’d be snuggled up with that dude for the rest of your life.

  Prince: Y’all seen my palace?

Genie: Be specific with your words. The deal is in the details.

5) Jasmine: How did you get past the guards?

    Aladdin: That was challenging.

Jasmine: You cannot just break into a palace like you own the place.

Aladdin: If you don’t have anything, you have to act like you own everything.

I’d rate this movie for an 8/10, cause the graphics and detail that was made for the movie made it look so surreal, and the theme was also Semi- Indie style, so I do give a 10/10 for the theme settings and adaptations. But I did feel that the music made the movie feel like a semi-musical base, and that did seem a bit off.
